A LITTLE HISTORY ABOUT A LITTLE PHOTO

| In the late 1700's, Lord Stanhope, an English Scientist, invented a tiny, high-magnification glass-rod lens. Quite a bit later, in the mid 1800's another Englishman, John Benjamin Dancer, invented micro-photography and created micro-photos that could be viewed through a microscope. He considered these to be novelties and gave them to friends. Then in the late 1850's a Frenchman, Rene Dagron, conceived the idea of cementing these micro-photos onto the end of a Stanhope type lens. These lenses with black and white photos, were then placed inside small souvenirs and jewelry items and ultimately became known as "Stanhopes".
